Your Journey
Day 1 – Kampala/Entebbe → Kibale Forest
Begin your adventure with a journey west from Kampala or Entebbe towards Kibale Forest National Park. Known as one of Africa's best destinations for primate encounters, Kibale is surrounded by beautiful countryside and rural communities.
Enjoy the changing scenery as you travel towards the forest, arriving in the Kibale area ready for tomorrow's chimpanzee trek.
Day 2 – Chimpanzee Trekking
Today, head into Kibale Forest for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience. Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, explore the forest in search of wild chimpanzees.
Kibale is renowned for its incredible primate diversity, and while chimpanzees are the main attraction, you may also encounter other monkeys, birds and forest wildlife during your trek.
Day 3 – Kibale → Queen Elizabeth National Park
Leave Kibale and travel towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda's most famous wildlife destinations.
As you move from dense tropical forest towards open savannah and wetlands, the scenery changes dramatically. The park is home to elephants, buffalo, hippos, antelope and abundant birdlife, with opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.
Day 4 – Game Drive & Boat Cruise
Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park on a game drive, travelling through its diverse landscapes in search of wildlife. Look out for elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, warthogs and other species.
Later, take to the water for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes Edward and George. The channel is particularly well known for its concentrations of hippos and offers excellent opportunities to see elephants, crocodiles and numerous bird species from the water.
Day 5 – Queen Elizabeth → Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Continue south towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, travelling through the spectacular landscapes of southwest Uganda.
The journey takes you through rolling hills, rural communities and increasingly mountainous scenery before reaching the forested region around Bwindi.
Settle in and prepare for one of the biggest highlights of your trip — gorilla trekking.
Day 6 – Gorilla Trekking
Today, enter Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.
With experienced guides and trackers, trek through the ancient forest in search of one of Bwindi's habituated mountain gorilla families. Once you find them, spend time observing these incredible animals in their natural environment.
The length and difficulty of the trek can vary depending on where the gorillas are located, making each experience unique.
Day 7 – Batwa Community & Cultural Experience
Discover more about the people and cultures of southwest Uganda with a Batwa community and cultural experience.
The Batwa are an Indigenous people of the Great Lakes region with a long history and deep connection to the forests of southwest Uganda. Their traditional forest-based way of life was profoundly affected when areas such as Bwindi became protected national parks and the Batwa were displaced from their ancestral forest homes.
Meet community members and learn about their history, traditions and contemporary lives, with activities potentially including storytelling, traditional music and dance, demonstrations of traditional skills and discussions about community life.
Where possible, these experiences are designed to directly benefit local Batwa communities, providing income for participants and supporting community initiatives.
Day 8 – Bwindi → Kampala/Entebbe
Enjoy your final journey back towards Kampala or Entebbe, travelling through the beautiful landscapes of southwest Uganda.
Depending on your onward travel plans, there may be opportunities for stops along the way before reaching Kampala/Entebbe for your departure or next destination.
An unforgettable Ugandan adventure combining chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, safari wildlife, spectacular scenery and authentic cultural experiences — all in one incredible 8-day journey.
